Kitfox™
SERVICE LETTER #9
SUBJECT:
PLASTIC SPINNERS
TO:
Kitfox™ OWNERS WITH 3-BLADE PROP AND PLASTIC SPINNER
FROM:
DENNEY AEROCRAFT COMPANY
PLASTIC
SPINNERS.
We have had two instances of the plastic spinner coming off in flight causing
blade damage; in one case complete loss of one blade resulting in the engine
nearly shaking out of the mounts. Spinners and hubs of both units had been
painted.
REMOVE
THE SPINNER.
Do not fly the aircraft or run the engine with the spinner installed until this
condition is remedied.
We
are developing a plate to be attached behind the 1” hole in the front hub half
which will allow a 3/16” dia. long bolt to be installed through the tip of the
spinner and back into the plate locking the spinner onto the hub. We will notify
you as soon as the modification kit is available.
If
you paint the spinner and hub take care to mask off the area of each that
contacts each other to avoid paint interfering with the attachment lugs. Paint
only light color that will reflect sun light. A darker color will heat up and
cause the plastic to soften.
