has advised us that in their “duration” testing, the thread-bosses in three
locations on the crankcase where the gearbox attaches failed.
Engines concerned: All 582’s and a limited number of late 532’s Rotax Engines
Action:
All 582’s and late 532’s with serial numbers 3799005 through 3799500 are
limited to a maximum of 20 operating hours and must not be operated beyond that
limit until remedy has been implemented. Failure to heed this mandatory
limitation could result in in-flight catastrophic failure with resulting loss of
limb or life.
Within
5-6 weeks, Rotax will make available a new gearbox housing and screws to all
582LC Engine owners. This new gearbox housing will be attached to the crankcase
by two additional screws. Instructions will come with the new gearboxes.
REPEAT -- All 582’s and late 532’s with Serial Numbers 3799005 through 3799500 are limited to a maximum of 20 operating hours. We will send out these new cases and instructions immediately after receiving them.
