BULLETIN #5
SUBJECT:
Main Fuel Tank Filler Cap E-20
TO:
All Kitfox™ Owners
FROM:
Denney Aerocraft Company
A
Kitfox™ owner reports that his engine quit in flight due to fuel starvation. The
main tank fuel cap vent had become plugged and would not allow air to enter the
tank.
The
cap is the same as those shipped with most standard plastic fuel tanks (E—26).
It is black plastic with a clear plastic dome. In the center of the dome is a
short vent nipple fitted with a rubber reed valve and a small black plastic cap.
Apparently,
the filler cap had caused no problems for some time, but the vent or reed valve
became obstructed in some way.
If
you have this type cap you should immediately
take some action to ensure unobstructed venting.
The
little cap is glued onto the vent nipple. Pry it off with a screwdriver and
carefully remove the rubber reed valve with a probe. Discard the reed valve and
glue the little cap back on.
The
small cap has a groove molded into its inner surface to allow air to pass. Be
careful not to glue this groove shut. You may want to file a notch across the
nipple to align with the groove to admit more air, drill through the top of the
cap (say 3/32”), or leave the small cap of f the vent nipple altogether.
If
you need assistance in
any way, please call customer
service, before returning any items to Denney
Aerocraft Co. Please obtain a Return Goods Authorization (RMA) number
from customer service.
