SUBJECT:              Inboard Flaperon Hinge Installation

APPLICABILITY:     All Kitfox™ aircraft including Vixens using Model IV style flaperons with the symmetrical airfoil

COMPLIANCE:    Required, as indicated below

FROM:                SkyStar Engineering

During aircraft construction, accomplish the following steps:

1.          Measure the length of the flaperon spar from the #2 flaperon hinge to the inboard end of the spar.  During measurement, center the #2 hinge in its slot in the flaperon skin, and measure from the center of the hinge weldment to the end of the flaperon spar.

2.         Ensure that the flaperon spar does not rotate or move in or out, relative to the flaperon skin.  This can be done by holding the flaperon body stationary, and attempting to rotate the spar by hand.  The flaperon spar should not rotate within the flaperon, nor should it move in or out, relative to the flaperon skin.

If the measurement obtained in Step 1, above, is less than 36-5/16", there is insufficient spar material for a standard inboard hinge installation, and a Flaperon End Hinge Retrofit Kit P/N 29004.000 must be used to install the hinge.  This retrofit kit contains a different flaperon hinge, retention ring, flaperon end rib, hardware, and installation instructions.

If the flaperon spar rotates or moves in or out, relative to the flaperon skin, the flaperon must be replaced.

Contact SkyStar Customer Service if either of the above-mentioned items apply to your flaperon installation, for a no-charge replacement of the affected parts.
